One of the signature campaigns taken on by the DSA in the last few years has been the push for Medicare for All. The DSA North Texas Healthcare Working Group has been working for health justice within our community, most notably by taking part in this nationalized campaign on the local level. They’ve hosted town halls, including one featuring activist Tim Faust, and discussion groups where people can come together and share their struggles with the current health”care” system. Healthcare is a human right, and people shouldn’t be barred access by exorbitant prices, astronomical medical debt, or the completely broken private health insurance system — and the Healthcare Working Group is fighting to make universal access to care a reality.

What they’re working on currently:

  • Meeting with coalition members from various organizations to plan Dallas campaigns around Medicare for All.
  • Planning a canvas during the National DSA weekend of action for Medicare for All on June 15-16, as well as the publication of editorials calling attention to the need for Medicare for All.
  • Putting together a video series of testimonials from people who have had issues caused by the current healthcare system.
